Design Apprenticeship Program (DAP), National Building Museum

2008

Project Purpose:
Evaluate the content, social aspects, and mentoring aspects of the Design Apprenticeship Program.

Project Conclusion:
Students are able to identify and adapt materials so as to execute their design ideas, and use a variety of methods to communicate content and design concepts.  They blended individual work and group work to design and fabricate successful projects and found DAP to be a welcoming, supportive learning environment.

Project Relevance:
Evaluation found that students learn basic design skills and then have the opportunity to stretch those skills, work individually and collectively with others who are likely professionals who are capable of advising students and sharing ideas without strongly imposing their own viewpoints.
